{"id":16705,"date":"2023-01-26T13:33:12","date_gmt":"2023-01-26T12:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.show.it\/tens-of-cybersecurity-companies-announced-layoffs-in-past-year\/"},"modified":"2023-01-26T13:33:12","modified_gmt":"2023-01-26T12:33:12","slug":"tens-of-cybersecurity-companies-announced-layoffs-in-past-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.show.it\/en\/tens-of-cybersecurity-companies-announced-layoffs-in-past-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Tens of Cybersecurity Companies Announced Layoffs in Past Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tens of cybersecurity companies have announced cutting staff over the past year as part of reorganization strategies, in many cases triggered by the global economic slowdown.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of the most recent announcements was made by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/sophos-joins-list-cybersecurity-companies-cutting-staff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sophos<\/a>, which in mid-January confirmed reports that it\u2019s laying off 10% of its global workforce. Roughly 450 people have reportedly lost their job as the company shifts focus to cybersecurity services, including managed detection and response.<\/p>\n<p>At around the same time, identity verification company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biometricupdate.com\/202301\/jumio-downsizes-as-identity-verification-providers-respond-to-economic-climate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jumio<\/a> also confirmed laying off roughly 100 people.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In May 2022, cloud security company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/cloud-security-firm-lacework-lays-20-workforce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lacework<\/a> announced terminating 300 jobs, representing roughly 20% of its workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another company that laid off a significant portion of its workforce last year is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/billion-dollar-valuations-cant-halt-layoffs-onetrust-cybereason\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">OneTrust<\/a>, which provides privacy, security, and data governance technology. Nearly 1,000 employees were let go, roughly a quarter of the firm\u2019s workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/security\/ironnet-lays-off-35-percent-of-staff-raises-going-concern-red-flag?itc=refresh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">IronNet<\/a>, the cybersecurity firm founded by former NSA director Keith Alexander, fired 17% of staff in June and another 35% in September due to <a href=\"https:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/news\/3883000-ironnet-plunges-by-almost-50-following-disastrous-results-co-ceos-departure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">significant problems<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the fall, Cybereason announced plans to reduce its staff by 17%, just months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/billion-dollar-valuations-cant-halt-layoffs-onetrust-cybereason\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cutting 10% of its workforce<\/a>. In total, the company fired approximately 300 employees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cloud security firm <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/security\/aqua-security-lays-off-10-percent-of-its-workforce-citing-changing-economy?itc=refresh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aqua Security<\/a> has laid off 10% of its workforce, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crn.com\/news\/security\/malwarebytes-lays-off-125-employees-expands-channel-focus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Malwarebytes<\/a> terminated 14% of its staff (around 125 people). <a href=\"https:\/\/cijeurope.com\/en\/gen-digital-to-lay-off-about-a-quarter-of-its-staff-in-czechia\/post.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gen Digital<\/a>, created through the merger of antivirus companies Avast and NortonLifeLock, let go of a quarter of employees, in some cases due to their activities overlapping with the other company\u2019s workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In October, developer security company <a href=\"https:\/\/snyk.io\/blog\/a-message-from-snyk-ceo-peter-mckay-oct-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Snyk<\/a> \u2014 recently valued at $7.4 billion \u2014 announced that it had started restructuring and reducing its global workforce, impacting 198 employees, or 14% of its total workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The same month, security and application delivery solutions provider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geekwire.com\/2022\/f5-cutting-fewer-than-100-jobs-due-to-current-macroeconomic-environment\/\">F5<\/a> announced cutting approximately 100 roles, representing 1% of its global workforce.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Enterprise security solutions provider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calcalistech.com\/ctechnews\/article\/hkyo39k9o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forescout Technologies <\/a>has reportedly laid off 100 of 170 employees at its R&#038;D center in Israel, after firing 100 other employees in October.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The companies that sacked employees cited market conditions, strategic reorganization and shifting priorities when motivating their decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Data from <a href=\"https:\/\/layoffs.fyi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Layoffs.fyi<\/a> shows that tens of cybersecurity firms terminated staff over the past year. The list includes Tripwire, Deep Instinct, Pipl, Transmit Security, Tufin, Checkmarx, Varonis, Perimeter 81, and Armis.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, many of those who have been terminated may not have any difficulties securing a job at a different company.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.isc2.org\/\/-\/media\/ISC2\/Research\/2022-WorkForce-Study\/ISC2-Cybersecurity-Workforce-Study.ashx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a> conducted by the nonprofit (ISC)\u00b2, the global cybersecurity workforce is at an all-time high, with an estimated 4.7 million professionals.
