{"id":17026,"date":"2023-02-09T19:32:44","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T18:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.show.it\/us-uk-slap-sanctions-on-trickbot-cybercrime-gang\/"},"modified":"2023-02-09T19:32:44","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T18:32:44","slug":"us-uk-slap-sanctions-on-trickbot-cybercrime-gang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.show.it\/en\/us-uk-slap-sanctions-on-trickbot-cybercrime-gang\/","title":{"rendered":"US, UK Slap Sanctions on Trickbot Cybercrime Gang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The US Treasury on Thursday slapped sanctions against seven Russians accused of running the notorious Trickbot cybercrime operation, freezing assets in multiple countries and imposing travel bans.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The seven individuals are being blamed for a series of major ransomware attacks targeting organizations in the US and the United Kingdom and the Treasury Department said it has information linking the hacking group to Russian intelligence services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrent members of the Trickbot Group are associated with Russian Intelligence Services. The Trickbot Group\u2019s preparations in 2020 aligned them to Russian state objectives and targeting previously conducted by Russian Intelligence Services. This included targeting the U.S. government and U.S. companies,\u201d the department said in a statement announcing the cross-border sanctions.<\/p>\n<p>The sanctioned Russians include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vitaly Kovalev<\/strong> \u2014 US Treasury said he is a senior figure within the Trickbot Group. Kovalev is also known by the online monikers \u201cBentley\u201d and \u201cBen\u201d.\u00a0 Indictment in U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey charges Kovalev with conspiracy to commit bank fraud and eight counts of bank fraud in connection with a series of intrusions into victim bank accounts held at various U.S.-based financial institutions that occurred in 2009 and 2010, predating his involvement in Dyre or the Trickbot Group.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maksim Mikhailov<\/strong> is accused of being\u00a0 involved in development activity for the Trickbot Group. Mikhailov is also known as the online moniker \u201cBaget\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>Valentin Karyagin is linked to the development of ransomware and other malware projects. Karyagin is also known as the online moniker \u201cGlobus\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mikhail Iskritskiy<\/strong> is being linked to work on money-laundering and fraud projects for the Trickbot Group. Iskritskiy is also known as the online moniker \u201cTropa\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dmitry Pleshevskiy<\/strong> is being accused of working on injecting malicious code into websites to steal victims\u2019 credentials. Pleshevskiy is also known as the online moniker \u201cIseldor\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ivan Vakhromeyev<\/strong> has worked for the Trickbot Group as a manager, the department says, noting that Vakhromeyev is also known as the online moniker \u201cMushroom\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Valery Sedletski<\/strong> is linked to work as an administrator for the Trickbot Group, including managing servers. Sedletski is also known as the online moniker \u201cStrix\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The notorious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.securityweek.com\/conti-ransomware-acquires-trickbot-it-thrives-amid-crackdowns\/\">Trickbot cybercrime operation<\/a> was born out of a malware first identified in 2016 that conducted online bank robberies out of Moscow, Russia.
